Birthdays are a reminder that there is so much more to come. ![]() Personally, I’ve always loved this special day, no matter the year, no matter the current events happening in my life. Those who spend the day as if it were any other – or even upset about turning a year older. I was also able to catch up with Jude Flannery for a brief chat about his upcoming record called Quiet By Your Side, out everywhere music is sold on October 28th.I never understood people who hate birthdays. Intertwined with each other, these moments emphasize the intimate human experiences that keep us coming back to the connections we make with others over time. Directed by Marc Zajack and filmed by Alexandra Golden Flannery, the video for Stars is a series of moments accentuated by an abstract narrative that reflects upon the ideas of journey, relationship and connection. What made The Promise Ring so endearing was their mix of power pop chords paired with a heart on their sleeves approach to their lyrics that led to several quotable moments within their songs. The album title also inspired author Andy Greenwald to use it for his great, comprehensive guide of emo music called Nothing Feels Good: Punk Rock, Teenagers, and Emo that I thoroughly enjoyed reading when it was released. Robbins, and the cover art features a shot of Trimper’s Rides in the heart of the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. The record has now turned 25 years old, so I thought it would be a great idea to revisit just what made this album so damn special. This time we had Thomas on bass, and it felt a little more complete in the acoustic incarnation. It’s in my blood, and embedded in these songs. We used to work these songs by performing live around LA, and I used to bang on the guitar like a drum to fill it out, which is an indigenous technique, when they took away their drums. Three part harmony and 12 string (I didn’t have much money, sold all my guitars except the old 12 string to get by). Getting into the acoustic versions of the songs, was really taking it back to how the songs began. The band is comprised of Rae Cole and Oscar Bugarin, who shared this about the acoustic record: This LA-based band are following up their debut, self-titled EP with this collection of acoustic songs to further showcase their songwriting chops.
